SEPA is an association of amateur and professional painters who paint together regularly outdoors in S.E. Ireland. All artists are welcome. SEPA organises Ireland's 'Art in the Open' plein air festival. SEPA membership is free. NB. As with all Paint-Outs posted on Plein Eire, these events are simply notifications of intent by one individual to be at a particular place and time to paint. Each member's participation is entirely at his/her own risk. No responsibility for harm or loss of person or property on the part of anyone else is intended or implied.

Here are a few ideas for paint-out venues. Please add your own suggestions and we'll get a schedule together for the coming weeks. Your addfitional recommendations welcome.

As ever, it is weather permitting, so in case the organiser needs to cancel, please indicate by RSVP for each event so a single message will let everyone know if an event is 'On' or 'Off'.

In particular, it seems smaller villages where we have access to coffee and a bite and a chance to say'hello' are sought-after venues. Here are some suggestions:

And scheduling for every second Sunday works great for me. The weather does not bother me as long as I have the right gear. Must buy an umbrella. :-). Unfortunately cannot make this weekend.

Comment by Louise Treacy on March 5, 2015 at 16:15: Yes the wind is definitely a factor near the coast Michael, although the Monday after the cancellation Jane and I went to paint at Ballytrent beach we found a couple of sheltered spots and did one piece each. Lovely day although we were cold by the time we finished it was well worth the effort. We had tried the safe first but wind was well too strong to stick it there

Comment by Michael McGuire on March 5, 2015 at 16:07: I think we more or less adopted that attitude too with SEPA and I can remember producing some good work on less than perfect days. Of the two recent cancellations, only one was a scheduled event, and there was the minor matter of the Ireland-England rugby match as well as the weather influencing the decision to cancel last Sunday's scheduled event in Clonegal. I can't remember ever cancelling any events other than these. I think John may have a point in one respect - it may well be worth changing a venue in certain situations. For example, we could have scheduled an event for Hook Head and find ourselves facing a forecast for gale force winds - wind is more of an issue than rain in my experience. Then it might be worth considering switching it to a more sheltered location.

Comment by Norah Blount on March 5, 2015 at 13:36: Have to agree with Dee, some of the paintings I enjoyed most were done with a brolly in one hand (if David Diaz can do it - remember his beautiful demo in Wexford outside Whites hotel in the rain and he did a fabulous painting). I remember being advised to look out for the aldi or lidl ski pants and they are great. It is messy to commit to a date and then have to change it because of the weather, especially for the host.
