Saltmills (Irish: Muileann an tSáile) is a small village located in the south-west of County Wexford, in Ireland. The village is located at the head of a small inlet that enters Bannow Bay. The village received it's apt name from the renowned Iron Age salt mills that existed just outside the village.

Listed as an "impromtu paintout" . One of the main aims of these paintouts are to explore areas of the south east, which we haven't painted in before.
Saltmills village sits behind Tintern Abbey, (the Abbey can be seen from Saltmills Bridge). It would be easy to pass through this little village, but yesterday's Paintout afforded us the time to look a little closer...
The bridge, mud flats, river, and old boat, made great painting material, while further along the road, local cottages , a water pump, and an interesting salvage yard, also provided interest.
We had a wonderful sunny day, though in exposed locations, there was still a chill in the air. Later in the afternoon, we took the opportunity to travel two minutes further along the road, to the wreck of an old Steam Boat, (the last one which worked in Ireland). A bad Storm, swept it from it's anchor, to it's present resting place....
It was a great day for painting and meeting friends...thanks to all who could make it:
Tony Robinson, Michael McGuire, Anne Cahill, Marie- Christine O' Brien, Karina Drogowski, Lize Humane and her daughter Mignon, Barry Lynch, Jane Meyler, Louise Tracy, Karen Scannell...did I spot a "drop by" from Laura Gibney?
Twelve in all....
St Mullins Co. Carlow Next Week!!
