Watching and waiting

"Wonderful colourful variations in your painting of the building as well as the ground, Norah.  The shadows on the wall are great   and that cat, sitting on the wall,  looking very contented, gives a lift to the whole design."

Castletown mid week paint out at Castletown house, Cellbridge

January 25, 2022 all day
I am heading over to Castletown next tuesday as I thought with colder weather and bare winter trees a few quick charcoal or pencil sketches would be quicker than setting up all the other gear. The indoor coffee shop is now in new hands for anyone who wants to have a coffee indoors but I will be staying outside and will be bringing my own flask, mask etcSee More

Is it OK to copy?

I'm always intrigued by people who look down their noses at fellow artists who copy the work of  other painters.

I'm fascinated by this example of  the supreme master of the  landscape, John Constable,  copying a work by Ruisdael that was painted almost 200 years before him in 1650. What's more, Constable got paid for it.   Figure out which is the copy.…

Not just the National Gallery

In a first for the group, Boyne Valley Plein Eire, visited the National Gallery on Saturday, Jan 11, 2014.  Overall,   a total of 15 were in attendance.   While some members, painted in the locality,   most of us went on the gallery visit, and took in the Turner watercolours, the gallery in general as well as the Irish section.   There was much interchange of ideas and comment  among members as we toured the gallery, and   we even waited until 3pm when  The…

Possible to Process Credit Cards on Smart Phone

In a development that could be very useful for artists selling their paintings, there is now a Paypal facility that allows anyone to  process their customers'  credit cards on  their smart phone.    A  small device is plugged into the phone and the card is swiped through it in the normal way. Payment is added to the seller's  paypal  account.   Money may be received from Paypal by cheque or by transfer to online bank.  Unfortunately not yet available in…

Cant wait now for the postman Sean - think the book I ordered is no.3 in a series and the cover looks different from your one (think the cover on your one would make a good painting of telly from the early days), hope to get up to the Botanic gardens some day this week for some sketching !

Hi Sean,

Great to have you join us on Plein Eire. All the better that you are a keen contributor and interested in the web as that is what keeps a community site like this one ticking. Within the site are several regional groups. We need more of those so everyone can be involved but close to you are Dublin Plein Eire and Dublin Sketchers.  You will find them listed under the 'Groups' tab and by joining you will receive notice of their paint-outs and sketching trips in the vicinity.

Enjoy the site.
