More Summer Courses

Was there ever such a summer with so impressive a selection  or art courses boasting the array of talent as in Ireland in 2011?

What a paradox - the wiser I get, the more I realise how little I know.

So if you haven't signed up at one of these courses to improve your artistic skills or to broaden your creativity, there are few excuses.

Several specifically plein air courses are listed on our 'Events' section given by artists such as Fergal Flanagan, Tom King (voted…

Art in the Open 2011: 3 Workshops

Watching a BBC programme on British landscape painting at the weekend I came across a new word. Well, new to me...."Stoffage".

Rather like 'en plein air' these things sound much grander in French, don't they?

- or should that be 'en francais'?

Anyway, it turns out 'stoff-ah -je' is what landscape painters call figures in a landscape going about their ordinary daily business - usually that is to say peasants dressed in peasant garb and…

SEPA Paint out - Fethard on Sea - 5/6/11

What a change in weather a day brings! From yesterday's highs of about 23 degrees, our day today started out very chilly indeed!! Poor Geraldine had made the trip from Co. Wicklow yesterday in great weather, to be confronted this morning with a blast of c-c-c-cold air!

Feathard on Sea had a couple of events on during the day, so most of the group decided to…

"What are ya do'in mister??!"

"How much do you charge for them?", "how long did it take you?", "Is that oil paint?", "My brothers a hairdresser"!..Just some fun with these locals. They stayed for about half an hour..I was worn out chatting to them. The lad in the strips said:

"I don't like painting in colours..I only use black and white"!!

I explained to him that black and white are…

North West Painters

Video Here

Our day out painting today (sunday 29th)  was an experance, our goal was to paint Dunluce castle on the north coast, and for a change the weather forcast was correct,  wet in the morning turning bright and breezy later. On the way we visited the White rocks area which is within site of Dunluce. The wind was quite strong blowing sand about, so we headed on to our target. The…

SEPA PAINTOUT- Kells Co. Kilkenny May 22- 2011

Thanks to Kevin Lewis for pointing us towards Kells today, and directing us to some great venues. Kells was a gem, which I'm ashamed to say, I  had never been to. The Priory was a huge mass of ancient ruins, in a wonderful setting. We had the choice to paint…

Painting in Donegal

This was a VERY windy day up at Melmore Head in Co Donegal and my group was getting blown about all over the place. Then we decided to move further along the beach and found a spot beneath a large sand dune and there was no wind at all. So it was an extreemly pleasant experience with the sun beating down on us and some great light across the water. On the way back we stopped off… Read on...

300

Today Plein Eire achieved a landmark 300 members - as easy as falling off a cliff!"  .

That may be a derisory number by the standards of Facebook or The National Lottery, but everyone here has a genuine shared interest. More than merely owning a computer or each wishing for a million euro, we have something in common, something rather…
