Your Site For Artists Who Paint Outdoors

The North West Painters Lost one of its founding members earlier this week. Niel Carrigan  His day to day job was as a school teacher but at the weekends he was an avid out door painter, who enjoyed the challenge's of painting the light, around and on the landscape, no matter what the weather and believe you me, we painted in some weather conditions, from wind swept to bright sunny days. On our last trip out the weather was good we went down to the Isle of Doagh in Donegal, where we were surrounded by the wild sea and the most magical hills. What did Neil concentrate on, a large rock pool, well it had the most wonderful reflections of the rock formations above and the light was stunning, his painting made this pool look like a lake. Neil would take his time to paint which sometimes meant he would have to return the next day to complete what he had started. This was Neil as I knew him.  Neil you will be missed.

What a lovely tribute you have paid to Neil with such beautiful words.  I remember seeing him doing that beautiful close-up in Virginia and I can just imagine him doing that rock pool with the same care.  I will be thinking of him every time I go walking through the woods in Virginia - may he rest in peace.
