Congratulations to our own Karen Scannell (Swallowsnest Studio) who has been selected to be one of only 21 Irish portrait painters competing in the Dublin heat of the prestigious 

Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year

The Dublin heat will be held in the RDS on Sunday 15 July and anyone interested in the dark arts of portraiture can turn up and watch the 3 groups of 7 artists painting various well-known figures . Meanwhile, around the perimeter of the main event there will be caricaturists, portraitists, appraisers, mentors and enough portraiture razzmatazz to make Sargent salute it.

Was any other Plein Eire member chosen to take part? Do let us know as I am sure a contingent will be in attendance with knitted teddy mascots in tow (just kidding!).

One of the 21 will be selected to go forward to a face-off (?) with a winner of 3 other heats held in the UK.

The Dublin event looks well worth attending as an opportunity to watch top painters at work and if you know of anyone else selected to take part, let us know so we can look out for them at the RDS next month.
