Plenty of restaurants and pubs.

For what it is worth.......I feel SEPA worked very well in the past with 2official paint out Sundays published in advance and any impromptu days sundays or weekdays added in between depending on the weather........I would be very wary of establishing too many rules and borders,I do appreciate the costs involved in travelling for some of us .......but if there were two paint outs on any given day would it be a dreadful thing?.........it is fantastic to know there is always somebody else out there who will join in at a few hours notice.

As such a recent blow-in to SEPA I feel guilty about raising this hare. I guess I was just grumpy that I couldn’t get along to the early paint-outs.

My selfish view of the discussion so far is:

1)      It is very important to maintain and cherish the current established ethos of SEPA, it really is a fantastic resource.

2)      For personal reasons I can only get along to paint-outs on  two Sundays each month and I need to be able to plan for these a few weeks in advance

3)      If practical I would like to meet up with others to paint-out on a weekday, not necessarily Saturday, in the weeks when I can’t get to a Sunday session.

 Last year there was a midweek paint-out in Graiguenamanagh which I think attracted about 10-12, which suggests that there are other members who might find midweek paint-outs attractive.  

So I guess my suggestion is to have SEPA Sunday paint-outs every second week with weekday paint-outs in the alternate weeks. The weekday sessions could be either local or area wide.

I looked back over my blog, Karen, and we do seem to have painted a lot less frequently last year, until we got into the summer months. So, perhaps, it would be a good idea to hear from others here regarding preferences. My opinion, for what it's worth, is that we should all paint "en plein air" as often as possible, purely for personal artistic development. So if we go for a fortnightly SEPA schedule, then I would be very keen on more frequent local paint-outs.

Did we meet up every week last year ? i thought we did.

The Paint out Plan is in "Flux" at the moment. We need to establish what  a majority of members prefer.

We started the year with a bi-weekly set up. With short paint out days and mild weather, we just kept going each week..I just hadn't got round to putting all the dates in place.....it would also take up the whole page!

So the options are to establish a SEPA paintout:

(1) every week.

(2) every second week - which would allow for smaller groups to meet locally and post their event

(3) have a representative North and south of the Enniscorthy/  Waterford Border, which would post  an event bi-weekly ...

.......................................................................................................

I wonder should we maintain a weekly Sunday paint out. Saturdays (or any other day available)  could then be an added bonus for smaller groups who may have a chance to meet up closer to their locality.

What do members think ?

I presume you are talking about the frequency of paint-outs, Terry, as opposed to considering days other than Sundays. If so, I think you have a point, as a weekly schedule would most likely result in smaller attendances. But I think what has happened over the last few weeks is just a reaction to the mild winter after the drudgery of the last two. I note on the draft schedule that we revert to fortnightly paint-outs in April and I presume that is the plan.

 

There are some of us though who would paint every day if we were "allowed" and, consequently, I think there is enough interest to get small groups of 5-6 to paint more frequently. Perhaps it would be a good idea to use this website to arrange "informal" paint-outs between the scheduled ones, subject to demand. So, for example a few members might get together to paint in Kilkenny/Carlow, another few in Tipperary/Waterford and a few of us here in Wexford. If we want to put a label on these, so as not to confuse them with the scheduled SEPA events, we could call them "informal local paint-outs".

Hi Karen  - well thought out!   If paintouts are planned in advance it would also help those travelling to possibly car share - thus reducing costs when the journey is further for one group or another

(a) Paint out day ?

I'd tend to be in favor of sticking with Sunday as our "official" paint out day . It's easier to keep in mind that there will definitely  be a paint out organised on that day, somewhere..... I could be wrong, as changing the paint out day, has never come up before.....

(b) Paint out season ?

The way our paint outs developed this year, makes a lot of sense. January / February also November / December are months with short days, and unreliable weather, so it's more practical to organize events closer to your base.  

I like the idea of alternating the weeks. If we run with it, I think this system could kick in from March to September ?

(c) SEPA Boundary 

We need to establish where exactly the boundaries for SEPA lie. We could easily over-stretch our reach, which could limit the benefits to members who can't travel great distances. .. 

(d) Paint out Schedule and process

How does a month in advance sound? It gives members time to plan ahead, voice  preferences, or  post events .

Say for example we're looking at our  April Schedule. We  could ask for suggestions, weigh up the options and reps. post two event each.

Our SEPA Group has evolved over a 4/5 yr period without any real structure in place.  I'd be interested to hear other members experience of the group. What's working well, and what improvements need to be made ?????

It looks as if SEPA paint-outs are being planned for most Sundays this year. Is this a good idea, as it might reduce the numbers turning up on any one day, and consequently reduce the craic and camaraderie?

If it is decided to have a paintout every Sunday, would be possible to include a reasonable number which are north of a line from Enniscorthy to Waterford to facilitate folks from Kilkenny, Carlow, South Wicklow\ Kildare etc? A lot of good sites north of this line were visited last year and would be worth visiting again. I would be happy to help research and propose a schedule of these and new sites in this area if was agreed, say, that paint-outs on the First and Third Sunday would be below "the line" and the Second and Fourth Sunday would be above the line.  What do folks think?
