After a complete wash-out in Dunbrody Abbey, I decided I wasn't going to let the weather beat me, and headed off to the Hook. "Your going on to the Hook R ya,says Tony and George...make sure you post it on the web", and they turn to their cars with wry smiles.Of course I only had paint on my mind...not how I was going to make it stick!!

I should have realized painting was going to be a challenge, when my favored location 5 mins. from the lighthouse was completely taken over by around twenty cars and vans.....(all owners had fishing lines attached!!).

So I continued on to the more exposed location of Hook Lighthouse. Parked the car and ignored the stares from my "neighbors" in the parked cars beside me!! I know it's windy.....yes its raining buckets.....I AM going to paint....no I'm not mad!!!!

So pretending I knew what i was doing I set up the easel, turned to the car (easel blows over)...I set up the easel, turned again to the car(easel blows over) ,weighed easel down with my bag..It stays put Hurray!!! I should just photograph the set up, and go home. Its a work of Art in itself!!!

No...I'm going to paint . Maybe if I work fast enough, it won't matter that the canvas has already gotten so wet that oil hasn't a hope , and acrylic washes off as soon as I put it on!!!

"Make sure you put it on the web", rings in my ears, and my enthusiasm drops as three attempts just to put paint to canvas are literally washed away....I had to paint SOMETHING....SOMEHOW.

With my easel standing redundant, I got my little acrylic pad and held it in my hand., opened my car door to shelter me a little where I stood ,the rain was still heavy so I left the palette in the car and proceeded to paint.

So if you think it's a bad idea to paint in the "lashings of rain",in a gale force wind and with no rain gear..my advice is ...do it anyway!!

Hi Karen. And there was I thinking, what can she get at the Hook, in the lashings of rain and the wild seas, and that's exactly what you captured. You are continually setting the bar higher and providing inspiration.

For all your sufferings, the results are pretty beautiful, makes it all the more so considering how determined you were!

Fair play to you, Karen, and pretty good results too! Sometimes there is a kind of insane pleasure to be had in beating the weather. But then again we're artists, so a little madness is allowed!
