This was painted from a series of photographs and sketches taken on one of my days in and around co Donegal. The Background hills are simplyfied so they do not distract from the forground. This painting containes both abstract (hills) and represintinal (forground),

I like to try and be as honest as I can to a subject, no mater how long or difficult it is.

Nice painting with an edgy and thoughtful feeling.

Oops sorry Patrick didnt read the title - but it must have worked as it speaks of silence anyway !

That was the intention the wool caught on the barbwire is a statment, given the title of the image.

I think I got exactly what you had in mind when I first saw this one. But I didn't notice the bits of wool on the barbed wire until now. That makes the statement even stronger I think - I almost feel sorry for the poor sheep!

That area is very quiet and peacfull, remote and wilde. Great for a towney to escape to.

Far-away hills would not be detailed and the foreground to me is wholly representational and the barbed wire is only a physical fence after all - I like this as it represents the countryside - sheep, stones, grass, barbed wire and the view and of course (hopefully) the silence

Looks representational to me - can see what each item is clearly and far-away hills are not given to detail anyway, being far away ?

Rember that old cowboys song dont fence me in, this is a representation of that sort of felling, becaus as the title sugests even in the country we come across limations to freedom.

I really like this, Patrick. Semi-abstract maybe, but there's and honesty and faithfulness to the subject matter that appeals to me.
