Thanks Dierdre! BTW you can tell I am a "townie" by the title. I have been informed that it should be "The Dry Yard"! Can't quite remember the distinction but something to do with the fact that the cows were on holiday with their calves before being given to the bulls again!

Thanks Tony! I had to be a bit careful with this as it was commissioned by a farmer as a retirement gift for her head stockman who knows every single head in her 100 animal herd having bred most of them so I figured that too many anatomical errors would not be acceptable!

I agree with everyone else, Mike!  I can't think of anyone else who would take on such a complex subject plein air. Must find you a barn and some cows somewhere for Art in the Open 2012!

Back-lighting, sundown, animals, complex structures, textures - this has every potential pitfall in it.

'Maximum difficulty' I think they'd call it in olympic gymnastics. I'm no judge, but if I were, I'd be holding up a 10.
