Oil on canvas panel 10x14. This view from the garden is very busy. Changes to the river level and traffic on the tow path will add interest over the year.

Oh good, a good ole fashioned kind of spooky story/legend!  I would have been disappointed if it was only the rain turning the stone dark!  :)    I will keep my eyes peeled for the December painting!

Elaine, I think it is called the Black Castle because the limestone from which it is made absorbs rain water and it can look quite Paynes Grey when wet.

Also, each day an old black dog appears by the castle. Nobody knows where the dog comes from or where it goes..........  Watch for December painting.

Wonderful painting!  Great subject for the year.  Ok ..... why is it call the Black Castle?  I will watch for paranormal things going on!

Thank you for your kind comments. However, my poor little figure seems to have evoked a rather sinister and Gothic response being likened to the Venitian slasher with a wolf!.

This has prompted me to watch out for paranormal activity around the castle at the solstice in Dec. Are there any Plein Air paintings of ghosts on record?

Great, Terence. This should look good through the months ahead.

...although the figure reminds me of the Venetian slasher in the movie, 'Don't Look Now'. Brrrr!

Hi Terrence. Great to see your work posted here at last! That Castle is so iconic of Leighlinbridge, and you've caught it on a cool November day. love the figure too!
