Event Description

Weather forecast is poor again for this sat. The National gallery have the Zurich Portrait prize exhibition running so a chance to view this and the other portraits in the National Collection. We can also try some sketching indoors or find a sheltered spot locally for eg in Trinity college grounds. Meet as usual at 11am in the coffee shop at the gallery.

The painting shown here is by Salvotore of Lucan, featured on the show about the road to RHA on RTE a while back.

The origins of the National Portrait Collection date back to 1875. Over the years the collection has been developed with additions of paintings, drawings, watercolours and sculpture depicting prominent Irish individuals who have contributed to the civic, social, and cultural life of the nation. Since 1998, generously supported by Irish Life & Permanent, the Collection has been enhanced by a series of commissioned portraits of prominent figures from contemporary Irish life. The annual Portrait Prize, launched in 2014, has further contributed to the growth of this significant collection.

I see that the rain for tomorrow is now clearing to light showers with plenty of sunshine for the afteroon,  so I will be bringing along my painting gear too, hoping to do some painting as well as the exhibitions

Heres a link to the Bauhaus Print exhibit, It may be interesting to those who might be unfamiliar with the different Printmaking processes.

all The Photographic exhibition is an all Ireland one, not Dublin as I posted previously

This is a good time in the National Gallery as there's a Photographic Exhibition of Dublin, a Bauhaus Print portfolio exhibition, as well as the Sorolla and Portrait one, plus great coffee.
