Event Description

A mammoth selection of the best paintings produced by participants in Europe's largest plein air festival, Art in the Open 2013 closes on Saturday 17th August.

This presentation of 'wet' plein air paintings will feature some of the finest alla prima landscape artists drawn from over 10 countries competing for awards of over €5000 including Artists' Choice and People's Choice awards, voted by peers and public.

The exhibition, held in the magnificent Greenacres Gallery, will include talks and demonstrations. It opens on bank holiday Monday 2nd August for two weeks.

Even if you are not taking part, this show promises to be well worth a visit.

All paintings to be collected Saturday 17 August or Monday 19.

Comment by Tony Robinson on May 26, 2013 at 14:46: Last year it was decided that it was more important at this stage of Art in the Open to showcase the best available work than to compromise the exhibition by showing at least one work by every participant. That can be hard on selectors and of course on the artist who doesn't have any painting on show.

The alternative would be to over-hang the show and to limit the number of people who can come along and participate. This aim to allow anyone to take part without first submitting work for approval is still a priority, although a cap on participants is almost inevitable at some stage.

Art in the Open Adjudicators for this year's festival are: David Diaz, John Dinan and Michael Richardson - 3 eminent outdoor landscape artists. By inviting 3 artists each year the festival hopes to represent a wide spectrum of styles and approach among exhibitors and prize-winners.
