The passion in Irish landscape painting 10 Replies

What is is that drives the Irish artist to paint? Is it the amazing scenery of Ireland? Or is it the unusual light that I notice in so many plein air paintings done there? My family is 3rd generation…Read on...

Welcome!  Seems we needed a place to be represented here with our Irish friends.

My grandparents were the Springers and the Donegans so I'm thinking that must be why I like Irish whiskey so well.

Looking forward to Ireland at the end of the summer.  Hope to meet some of you there!

Greetings:  Hope to visit Ireland again this year.  Maybe even get some painting in.  I usually paint in oil at home (Boston & northern NH area) but find it easier to carry acrylics when travelling due to the quicker drying time.

Thanks for starting this group, Lori.  My trip last year to Ireland and to Art in the Open was beyond description.  I have such a warm feeling for all my new Irish friends, as well as all the Yanks I met over there...as well as all the other countries represented.  Ireland was a long time dream to go to, and getting to go, and feel so welcome was just wonderful.  I don't have any Irish ancestry, that I know of, but I guess I'm a wannabe.

My great grandfather came from Ireland at one year old--I have to get the story straight and then I'll relay it! Lori--thanks for starting the group!

Hi Lori, I'm happy to be part of this group! Like Bernie, I'm of Irish descent as well, both sides...Scotts, Callahans, o'Connells... The names go on.
I've been to Ireland in 2006, brought my oils along and loved painting there. Ibalso fell in love with the countryside, the people, the magic and the beauty.
