Here is a goldmine of a post by Thomas Jefferson Kitts on his blog showing in some detail his research into the palettes (ie. Range of colours) used by some of his favourite artists. The artists also contribute some of their top tips for mixing paint successfully.
In addition, almost by pppaccident, there are photographs of the actual palettes (ie. mixing surfaces) which, of themselves, are equally informative.
Developing your own colour choices is surely a key aspect to the development of an artist and often as identifiable and personal as a signature. This post is a resource to help with this and worth re-visiting again and again.
