Your Site For Artists Who Paint Outdoors

Under the terms of posting I can only post this here as it was done from a painting, from a painting, from a painting, from a painting, from a pastel sketch and it'll probably go to another painting yet. The sketch was done at Lady Island last year or was it the year before? The image is still in my head and this is near to it.

Just slipped that one in specially for ya , Kevin, b'coz I know you're a bit of a francophile and like the odd bon mot (good woman?) and a bit of culture. Glad you liked it.

Thanks guys. Yeah that tree bugs me too. It took on a life of its own but may be gone in the next version, or considerably reduced. Also had people coming and going in different versions. Feel its better without because it then becomes the viewers landscape and one is not drawn to people in a landscape viewing a landscape. I mean, cut out the middle man or something.

I really love this - such beautiful light, movement and emotion in it. The different brush strokes are also really interesting and force you to keep looking!

Well plein air or not, I like it very much anyway, although not completely convinced about position in space of the tree.
I can almost imagine a tall bearded artist in a long white collarless shirt walking across the lake to a choral accompaniment. Must stop eating cheese after 9 o'clock...

I've been working 'sur le motif' for so long now that I have a mental block (no, not the cheese again) about developing the work as you have done and think the whole area of developing plein air works, using them as a starting point and for information to use in the studio is an area worthy of a section on here.
