It was such a nice morning yesterday, that I just jumped in the car and drove out towards Screen, hoping to find some of the last straw bales. I got lucky with this little find, although I had to shift things around a bit to make an interesting painting (there's a photo of the scene on my blog - on the drop down menu on my website).

Thanks Terry. That particular "trick" is called halation. It stops things, especially rounded forms, appearing like cardboard cut-outs. Might have overdone it a little bit with the nearest bale though!

I like the emphasis given by the "shine effect" achieved by blurring the line on the tops of the bales.
Thanks Norah. Yes, the round ones are far more interesting to paint.
Magical - I did the same sunday moring but only found some square ones which didnt appeal to me
