Your Site For Artists Who Paint Outdoors

Seven hours in the making-way too long, and it shows in the hasty finish. I will definitely try to capture the feel of this place with a studio painting. Despite my best efforts to pay for coffee twice during the session (no other breaks), the owner of La Dolce Vita (Roberto?), would take no money. I thank him for his kindness.

HI Myles.

Great to meet you at last during Art in the Open. I'll certainly pass on your thanks to Roberto.

Selskar Street is the stretch of the Main Street between George's Street and Slaney Street (Dunnes Stores). It runs along the far end of the street you were painting in. Your painting is of Trimmer's Lane (West) (to distinguish it from the back lane on the other side of Selskar Street leading all the way down to the Quay, which is Trimmer's Lane East). It has also been listed on maps as Selskar Avenue, but since they chopped down the fine, mature trees which used to grace it, to replace them with scrawny garden centre saplings, that hardly seems appropriate now.

Since the trees were felled there have been attempts to rename it a gentrified 'Selskar Square' and the wags have nick-named it 'Nicky Rackard Square' to aggravate those who think the statue would be better located elsewhere.  So, stick with 'Trimmers' Lane', as the title for your painting. It is the street's historical name reflecting its place of significance in Wexford's maritime heyday.

You've certainly caught the scene on a busy weekend. Thanks for posting it.
