Thanks all for your comments,
Meg - if you are interested in bike holidays, this was a lovely trip with a mixture of country roads and cycle pathways along the banks of the Danube. The quality of the pathways was god in Hungary, but was mixed in Croatia and Serbia with some gravel and dried muck paths often up on a dyke that ran parallel to the river - could be quite bumpy. This is the link to the company I've done most of my bike trips with - http://www.donaureisen.at/radurlaube-am-donauradweg-und-eine-donaus... It's an Austrian company and they have a great selection of really nice trips around Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Italy, with some further afield also. The trips are planned along the banks of rivers and lakes and usually along specially built cycle path-ways. The nicest I've done with them started in Passau in Germany and ran along the Danube through northern Austria to Vienna. The one I might do next year is called Etch Klassich and runs along the river Etch through the Sud Tirol to Verona (might try to take in an opera at the end!). Maybe we can hook up and exchange info on the bike holidays.
