Oil on A6 paper
These little paintings are done in an A6 sketchbook when I am taking a break from
the main painting of the day. They are I suppose, akin to abstract expressionism but the more I look at them they recall the organic shapes, rhythms, patterns, colour and atmosphere of a place or landscape. The are accidental, immediate and rely on very little forethought or artistic control and rely almost solely on the magical power of paint to conjure up in us emotional associations.
What do you think?

THese remind me of lying in the grass and looking at the clouds as a child and something I still do (but in a nice comfy hammock now), you could dream away all day imagining all sorts of shapes and stories in them and it is a pity we lose some of that when we "grow up" so your idea of doing these between the main painting helps to bring back some of that feeling and I like seeing the colours not fully mixed so they add to the painting
