Here is a link to 'How I Paint' by observational painter, Blaise Smith which is a quite detailed account and very interesting.

Blaise Smith has been Artist in residence at The Presentation Secondary school in Carlow for the last year.
I understand that he spent 3 days each week painting there. The resulting body of work -which includes a really impressive series which covers everything from a study of a moulded plastic chair through multiple portraits in cookery class to a wide angle painting of the college is now on show. It is one of the exhibitions now on show in the Visual Art Centre in Carlow. It really is worth seeing. Also there is a video running which shows him at work while he was in the school. The Barrow Valley Group also also has an exhibition on show there at the moment. Also in "Visual" is an exhibition of portraits with very strong and distressing back stories.
The Blaise Smith work is recommended viewing, it is worth a trip!
