Boyne Valley is up and at it again. Got off to a great inspirational start last week. So get out the long johns, we’re off to Castlebellingham this Saturday 18th.
Castlebellingham is a quiet little village between Drogheda and Dundalk. It won a silver medal in the Tidy Towns in 2012.
The castle due to reopen soon as an hotel will be very happy for us to paint in the grounds.
There has been a brewery in the village since 1770. The brewery was the main supplier of drink to the Boer War troops. Unfortunately, it no longer operates
Beside the castle is an enclave of Widow’s Almhouses, 4 or 5 very pretty cottages built at the beginning of 20thC. Local artist, Carolyn Hoey, has captured a couple of them expertly in the attached photo.
As usual we meet at 11 a.m. for coffee/breakfast, paint for a few hours and reassemble to review the day. Venue is Foley's Tea Rooms, a long thatched building at the north end of the village.
To get to Castlebellingham from M1, travelling north, exit at junction 15 and continue to Castlebellingham. Turn right and Foleys is on your right.
See you there.
