Event Description

Because we can't meet face-to-face, this is a Digital Virtual Paint-out for the Howth area , no matter where in Ireland, people live, with imagery we can access online in our own homes.  Howth has a lot to offer with 2 lighthouses, a harbour with lots of colourful boats, a customs house, a martello tower and there's also a Howth castle.

And we have a week to produce a result.   Participants can find their own inspirational  images online, and because the source is digital, people from around the country can take part.  Here are a few links.

First Google Street, where one can travel around  in a virtual manner.

Sally,   that's good stuff from Samuel Ferguson.   Describing the "sea-bird song" as "clanking"   is very apt.   . Is that onomatopeia?    People look down on seagulls,  and I personally consider them the most graceful bird of all - the way they soar and gracefully glide.

Joe, I'm still working on my Howth Painting,  and Denise I don't know much about blogs.  And I don't have a microphone yet for Zoom.  And daily I

see amazing uses for it - from people getting married to facilitating a

a  meeting in the House of Commons.

Sean before you whisk us away to our next magical spot i can’t resist offering these lines by Samuel Fergurson - Aideen’s Grave - about Howth Head.

“The humming of the noon-tide bees,

The lark’s loud carol all day long,

And borne on evening’s salted breeze

Their clanking sea-bird song”.

Yes Sally its hard to find blogs especially if you are using a phone, but the weather is so good, maybe another plein air painting or 2 ? I am tempted to go out in to the fields near me, amazing yellow oil seed in full flower, isnt it 5km from tomorrow and I think plein air painting is safer than cycling or jogging which I see loads doing here in the park

I was looking for photos to paint for Howth, I came across these if anyone wants to use them, taken on plein air outings

Hi Sean, how do you post a painting to the blog? I would like to post one for the virtual paint out in Howth. Many thanks if you or anyone else can help me on this. Denise
