I started to so some larger studio paintings from plein air reference material a few weeks ago. I've been concentrating on not just copying plein airs on a larger scale (nigh impossible anyway), but rather embellishing them by doing things like adding figures, playing around with texture, and using varying brushstrokes. These are my most recent three:-
Summer Morning, Coumeenoole (West Kerry)
(24" x 18" Oil on Canvas)
Windy Afternoon, Clogher Head (West Kerry)
(24" x 30" Oil on Canvas)
Rough Seas, Near Brandon Creek (West Kerry)
(30" x 24" Oil on Canvas)

Hi Paddy,
Yes, it's probably where you're thinking of, about three miles North of Slea Head (Dunquin Pier, where the ferry for the Great Blasket sails from, is about mid-way between Slea Head and Clogher Head. The original plein air on which the studio is based, was painted just above Clogher Strand, but there wasn't much strand that day!
Michael, Clogher Head is that, that extra head that juts out off Slea Head?
Great paintings by the way, of some of my favourite places!
