The Plein Eire site, powered by Ning Networks, was free when it was launched back in March 2010. Since then, membership has grown by one member almost every day.
That is a very gratifying response to the effort that goes into it.
However, Ning Networks are now charging a fee for the facility to continue, facing networks such as this one with the choice of either paying for them or closing down. Some sites have sought donations while others opt to charge a joining fee. Experience has shown that even a nominal joining fee of a couple of euro will put off a lot of new members from trying it out and the cost of collection can be almost as expensive as the value of the subscriptions.
Instead, Plein Eire is now being funded by Wexford's main art supplier, Spectrum Art & Framing. You may have noticed that the Google ads which were on the right of these pages are missing. They will eventually be replaced by low-key adverts from Spectrum and other suppliers of specific interest to plein air painters, thus enabling the site to remain free to members.
Among the changes and improvements announced by Ning networks are the addition of links to Facebook
. If you have your own accounts with these, you can sign in to Plein Eire, or share your posts and photos here to your Facebook
page with a single button. You can also add a Badge
to any website or Facebook
page which is a direct link to this site. The badge is on the right of every page and shows your commitment as well as encouraging more artists to join Plein Eire. Plein Eire has its own page on Facebook here
It is anticipated that additional improvements to the site will be added in coming weeks.
