This painting was chosen from over 600 total entries, 60 artists were selected for "Strokes of Genius" judged by Stephen Doherty, editor of Plein Air Magazine(hmm does this make me a genius now? ha ha) Painted from several plein air sketches and my memory of this very special place in Albuquerque, NM. The Sandia mountains are everchanging. On a cool Autumn evening the distant valley and intermittent golden cottonwood trees glowed. In fact, the whole scene glowed. I hope I caught some of the magic.

Wonderful .
Beautiful stuff Jeanean
ha ha ha Patrick you are full of blarney.............. genius indeed.
I must say it was gratifiying to be part of the show and especially having such a prestigious judge Generally I stay away from shows and competitions. I don't like them at all and feel it takes away from the spirit of creativity. Besides it is a bit like comparing apples and oranges. Take care
Yes you certainly did catch some of the magic. Not surprising you were selected for being a Genius:-).
I like the way you have given a description of your working method and impressions of the place.
Thank you for your kind comment Maria. I do love this painting mostly because I love New Mexico so much There is a wealth of possibilities in the desert palette. I go there every year
It is a marterpiece, congrats
