I agree that sketches are brilliant at capturing 'a moment'

I don't know if you had a chance to look at Monika Jones sketch of farm houses in west Cork

Its a fantastic example of reducing a motif to its essence

Thank you, Neil-I'm trying.  Actually, I am only getting back to watercolour plein air after years of neglecting the medium.  At the very least, a watercolor study serves as a "snapshot", being, for me anyway, much quicker to make.  I need to invest in some decent tube colours, as well as using a travel set of pan paints.

I have been reading a lot of your Forum posts.  I wish I was as articulate as you on so many aspects of painting.
