Your re right, that is the only way, you ll relax and forget that your even drawing or painting at all and thats the moment your looking.You have to experiment break all the rules and not be afraid to take risks, encourage accidents with the paint, throw it around abit. I m gonna try some larger work outside in oils with a dirty great brush in poor weather.Shouldnt be asking for poor weather at the moment as its so nice.I discovered a new artist that I think is incredible,' Joan Eardly' scottish.She painted out in all weathers, look her up, amazing paintings.

I'v always struggled with pastels. I think the only way to conquer that is to play with them like a child.
Adding water could be great messy fun :-)
A great sketch Patrick, do you ever try wetting a brush a treating the pastel, charcoal and chalk like watercolour? try it out
