I visited the walled garden a few weeks ago just at the start of the fine spell. I found myself drawn to the humble rhubarb here, despite other more beautiful attractions. Maybe, it was just the fact that the light was a bit flat, with light cloud cover. Often, in light like this, simple subject matter seems to be elevated somehow.
It's oil on 12" x 16" MDF Board.

Thanks Sally. It was a case of just focusing on the foreground plant (that's where all the detail is) and then winging the rest to some extent. As far as I can remember I spent over and hour doing that part of the painting. The garden manager actually took a photo of the painting about midway through and all I had done was that one plant!
Lovely Michael. I can see why you were drawn to the sun shining through the leaves (very difficult to draw - for me anyway) and their dramatic red legs.
Thanks Marja. Sometimes, I find myself drawn to subject matter like this.
I love this painting. The simplicity and the light is beautiful.
