This coming Saturday we are heading to the picturesque island of inis Bò Finne....where time has stood still..The wee white washed cottages are a stark reminder of a gentle people that depended on what foods could be derived from an improvised land, but where fish were plentiful and ceoil agus craic was part and parcel of everyday life.Once inhibited by 150 people , it's now only home to a few fulltime residents. Places of interest on the island are ..As follows.
The old school house and church, unusual rock formations in the red and white granite cliffs , north of the island..Caves at Toin na Maoile, ..Sea arch at Scoilt an Droichid, ..The stone beach at Erroonagh, Golden beaches at Tobar., views of Errigal and Bloody Foreland, Cnoc Fola, Horn Head, Toraigh, Inis Dooey, Inis Beag, ..Bird watching, like the corncrake, peregrine's Falcons, artic Terns , Barnacle geese, ..and a lot more.
Inis Bò Finne...the island of the white cow is located 4 miles from the village of An Fal Carrach and 2 miles from magheraroar pier.covering 300 acres , this small island cultivated in the past in the rundale manner and involved the communal usage of scarce arable land.
Meet on the pier at Machaire Uì Rabhartaigh at 9.15 am sharp, we have chartered a boat for 9.30 am...the last boat leaving the island is 5pm, please be at the pier at 4 .45pm..to catch this boat.
