‘From My Travels’ opens on Friday 15th October at 7pm in the Pigyard Gallery, Wexford featuring largely plein air work by the Dublin-based artist.
Jim Doolan has been friend and mentor to Art in the Open plein air festival, acting as adjudicator on two occasions. ‘From My Travels’, features work Doolan created on location on Achill Island, in Croatia, London, Malta, Rome, Spain and of course, Dublin.
”I never use photographs when I work - I always work in the open. Photographs are flat, they don’t have the detail or range of colour I need to create art and, I find a great deal of atmosphere and light is lost in photographs.”
Jim studied under such luminaries as Desmond Carrick and Henry Healy and for several years has been attached to the prison education service as art tutor. The exhibition will be opened by Minister for Justice, Dermot Ahern.
