Here is advance news of a new oil painting surface from Arches (owned by Canson) :
'Arches Huile' or 'Arches for Oil'.
This 300gsm acid-free 100% cotton rag paper is made from the same stock as their famous watercolour paper, but instead of a sized surface, it is treated on both sides to accept oil paints.
Unlike normal oil sketching paper, Arches for Oil will have a random texture similar to 'NOT' watercolour paper ie. medium texture. However it will be much lighter than hardboard, canvas panels, stretched canvas and even 2mm MDF. This will make it particularly suited to taking on painting trips.
Launched during May 2012, it will be available in imperial (22" x 30") sheets and rolls initially and 2 pad sizes later in the year. It will retail at about the same price as Arches Aquarelle. It should be available at most outlets for Arches paper, including Plein Eire sponsors, Spectrum Art & Framing, in Wexford.
If you want to know more about it, here is a demonstration video.
