Yes Sally its very similar to my Tight Squeeze, I love the water in this one.
Not being knowledgable of Singer Sargent i cant make comparisons that said this is a very special painting. The face the skin tones the dress and shawl the texture on the walls and floor, the background furniture and wall hangings. So very well executed..
Friends, thank you all for taking the trouble to comment. Poor Sargent must be whirling in his grave. I enjoyed doing it and learned a lot but feel I'd like to do it again. I'd concentrate on his one stroke instead of several, larger brushes and I'd use fingers to soften edges. And then the NEXT time i'd do it i would really have to bite the tone bullet. Of course I know I won't do it again otherwise I might become more competent!
Hope we'll be meeting soon en plein air.
I meant "lost edges"
Sargent would have been very happy with your excellent copy. All the advanced techniques well executed, the folds in the dress the most edges, skin tones the lighting of the table in the background. One of the best paintings I've seen on this site. i haven't been brave enough to even attempt a Sargent. Maybe someday.
It turned out brilliantly Sally, he is a great artist to be inpspired by
