Thanks for the lovely comment. Yes the conundrum of composition am devouring books on it at the moment... so have got all of these terms in my head - unity, contrast, dominance, repetition, harmony, and balance... so it swirls on but don't think it matters how many thistles as long as you have one big shape (dominance) that can be made up of smaller shapes grouped and repeated in varying sizes and angles (contrast and unity).  But I think you know all of this anyway so maybe have a go at making a few small compositional studies before you decide.  Look forward to the finished work.

You did a lovely job on it Alison. You really make one curious as to what is around the corner. I'm still deciding on my painting. I started with 5 thistles, then when I got home I decided there was too much going on in the painting, so changed it to 3 thistles. Now, I think it would look more balanced as 4 thistles! I'll post it on the machine when it is finished.

Thanks, but mainly due to  the wonders of a limited palette with little or not blue available!

Nice one Alison.   You did a lovely job of the sky.  The cerulean blue hints at the sea beyond. Skies are your think.
