Kennedy's is a fine art shop. But to get there will necessitate going into the Dublin City centre when there is a direct bus to Wexford from the airport. There is a good art shop in Wexford (Spectrum Art & Framing) which has Daler-Rowney and Winton student oils and Winsor & Newton and Michael Harding both in Artists' ranges. I have to declare an interest in Spectum. But if you want to send a list of favourite colours from any of those ranges, I can have them put by for you, along with turp etc.

However, I like to poke around art shops sometimes and if you feel like exploring Dublin and have time to spare, Kennedy's on Harcourt Street will have all you require.

Although you could be unfortunate, its not strictly against airline regulations to fly with oils,  just turp, alkyds and some mediums which contain them.

Congratulations to Lori Putnam, one of this year's AITO workshop tutors, who has recently won first place as a signature artist at Plein Air Artists of Colorado's 16th Annual National Juried Exhibition for her painting, 'Nestled Among the Ferns'.

Lori also received the Juror’s Choice Award in the 1st Annual Juried Exhibition of Women Painters of the Southeast (WPSE) at Corse Gallery in Jacksonville Florida.  Juror Barbara Flowers stated, “The design is strong and conveys overall simplicity, yet provides complex shapes to continue drawing the viewer in. There is sophisticated color harmony, appropriate use of values and understanding of color perspective. The surface quality is outstanding, in use of large vs. small strokes, board/narrow, long and short, thick and thin…. Finally, the artist knew when to lay her brush down. She said want she wanted to say and stopped! This demonstrates much restraint!

Lori is giving 2 workshops at Art in the Open and along with several others, they are selling out quickly. If you haven't already done so, book your place now as there are 12 places at each and that is all.

I can't seem to register on the AITO website - I get an error message when I hit the "booking" link that says its broken or moved.  I'm planning on going to the event, hopefully I can register soon.  It sounds like a lot of good painting fun.

I really want to attend this event and currently in Europe and comming from Australia it might be my only chance.

I think the idea is they must be able to hang each painting easily and securely, so framing is encouraged but if you work in oil or acrylic, then stretched canvas strung for hanging will be accepted.

For pastels or watercolours, framing is a must. There are local framers who will have  a selection of ready-mades and will put together simple mats and frames during the festival week, while some artists bring their own frames to fit canvases or panels they intend to use. The festival brochure has a little more detail.
