3 adjudicators for Art in the Open 2013 awards have been announced.
All eminent artists who are very experienced in painting outdoors, they are; David Diaz, John Dinan and Michael Richardson.
David Diaz has a background in art education and is chairman of the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters' Association, perhaps the most prestigious of east coast plein air associations in the USA. David of Maryland, USA, has won many awards at plein air events and he is a regular visitor to Art in the Open.
John Dinan is one of Ireland's best-loved plein air artists and his courses in painting in Dublin, Wexford, Cong, (Co. Mayo) and on the Cote d'Azur in the south of France are in great demand. These courses cater for adults of all abilities, and include a two year course for artists intending to pursue a professional career. John studied under Henry Healy at NCAD and exhibits regularly in solo and group shows.
Michael Richardson studied art at Ipswich School of Art. He is a prolific artists working exclusively en plein air. He is a member of the Wapping Group of Artists, probably the oldest outdoor painting society in the UK which numbers several of the most prominent British landscape and marine artists, The Chelsea Art Society, United Society of Artists and is a founder member of the Brass Monkeys Art Society.
He has exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts, The Royal Society of Marine Artists, The Royal Institute of Oil Painters and The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour at the Mall Galleries in London.
The organisers are delighted to have such a prestigious awards panel of practicing artists and gratefully acknowledge that but for agreeing to exclude themselves and giving their time and expertise in this capacity, all 3 artists would have been competing for AITO'13 awards themselves.
Join me in congratulating Dutch artist and Plein Eire member Sonja Brussen, winner of the Plein Air Artists prize of a week's 4* accommodation in White's Hotel, Wexford to take part in Art in the Open in July. Sonja submitted 3 paintings you can see (along with other entries) here: http://pleinairartists.ning.com/forum/topics/3244577:Topic:279364?i.... Happy St. Patrick's Day to all plein air friends and be sure to use extra green paint in your paintings today!
Don't forget, to book your place, you must actually Register on the official website.
If numbers continue rising at the current rate, there is likely to be a cap on attendance, so don't leave it until the last minute.
