Plein Eire

Your Site For Artists Who Paint Outdoors

I was checking out some old sketchpads, from 1996 and 2003, and realized that half the house in the lower picture is now in the sea off Ballyconniger Beach, Blackwater...and the railway Station , Campile in the upper picture, is now gone completely and the Line closed this year .

This makes me think how important our Plein Air Painting Ventures are, for recording localities, before they change, and disappear.

Here's a painting I did of Ballyconiger, 2010..seven years later !!!:

Too true, Phil. But I think its the poor chap in your painting of Campile I feel sorry for. There he is, about to chuck himself under the next train - and next thing, a truck full of sleepers is driving slowly past....

You've got a point Phil. Future historians will thank you.

That's really interesting Phil. We forget how fast the landscape changes around us, particularly over the past ten years or so..but the erosion on Ballyconnigar is shocking isn't it? Thanks for posting these ..
