Thanks to Jazz, Aoife and all the staff at Ferns Castle today, who were so helpful to us. We were able to peruse the Ferns Tapestry in the visitor center, and take part in an excellent tour of the castle, which houses some wonderful original 8oo yr old Norman architecture.
Pictured above is G. James, who was a visitor attending the castle tour. Our guide Aoife described how a piece of ancient graffiti, (a name carved into the stonework in 1891), was to be preserved as it is now classed as part of the castles history.
Mr. James was standing beside it at the time, looked to see what the name was, and to his surprise it read : " J.James 1891" ...the same name as many of his relatives!!
We were a small group today, Denise, Lara, Karina and myself. Quite chilly and overcast. After spending the morning at the castle, we moved across to Bunclody, and up to Mount Leinster....which blew away the cobwebs...and nearly Karina also :) Click here for more photos of the day:http://pix.ie/sepa/album/421339
