Boyne Valley paintout - Dun Laoghaire 25th April 2015

Well, not a paintout exactly, although most of us did bring materials.  But the weather was dreadful with heavy rain.  However, we were in the right place because part of the plan was to visit the 137th Annual Exhibition of The Dublin Painting and Sketching Club and to start the day with the Portrait Painting Demonstration by Jim Doolan.

It was wonderful.  Security man, John, sat as a jolly model for Jim.  Jim used water colours. Among many other tips he told us that he did not eschew the use of white.  It was interesting to see that he used 300lb tinted w/c paper.

Many Plein Eire artists exhibited including Valerie Syms Martin, Susan MacKay, David Goldberg, and they are just the members who paint regularly with Boyne Valley!

After that we refreshed ourselves at Mao's restaurant and then back again to view the exhibition at our leisure.  Painting outdoors was out of the question (Dee Shanny was not with us!)
