Your Site For Artists Who Paint Outdoors

An overcast day, which eventually turned into rain by mid-afternoon for our first post AITO paint-out at Ballyhack yesterday. Days like this can be very challenging (but we are all getting a lot of practice lately!), so I had to look hard to find some colour and even then give mother nature a little help/enhancement. I think it was the overlapping patterns of the boats that appealed to me initially. But they were sitting on fairly flat, boring mud, so I invented the puddles and reflections to give the painting a little more punch.

Thanks Keith. Funny thing about painting is that you sometimes get a good one when you least expect it - a bit like fishing I suppose!

I did not start all over again because I was just at the early stages of my painting when it rained.I will put it on the site.

Thanks Caroline. Yes, the workshop/demo went very well, and the sun even shone for me!

Regarding paint-outs, the problem is that some of our most active members work on Saturdays, so the "official" ones will most likely stick to Sundays. However, it is perfectly feasible for one or more members to organise an informal paint-out on any other day. So why not suggest a venue and date and see who might be interested - I'm usually fairly flexible and I'm sure some others would be too.

It works. Love the foreground colours. Hope AITO and your lecture went well. Any chance your SE group might meet on a sat? Sundays don't suit me, and would love to get down from Dublin sometime to join up with your group for painting.

Did you have to start all over again then (when the sun came out)? That can be really frustrating, when the light changes completely and permanently for the day.

I did and i persisted under the rain which did not last too long then the sun came out. The light was fantastic but very challenging to put on canvas.

Thanks Marie-Christine. Did you manage to get one done before the rain?

You have done it again! A wonderful painting! Well done Michael!

Yes, Keith, and one day soon, there will have to be a great fire or my ceilings will cave in. I suppose if something is so bad that it warrants being put in the attic, it deserves to be firewood really!

Thanks Laura. Did you manage to get anything done yourself - the last time I saw you, you looked absolutely frozen!
