Thanks for the links. How TT carried his gear is a mystery. Those early canoes weren't very stable - shift your weight and everything goes under. These days we have only to contend with getting our gear on board a plane without incurring an excess luggage fee or having our paint tubes confiscated.
Tony, thank you for the link (The Jack Pine). Yes I know the Group of Seven. I bought this book: The Group of Seven and Tom Thomson. Now I found this: FootstepsGroup7
I often asked myself, how Tom T. stored and carried all his oil sketches, that were painted with thick paint. He travelled there a lot only with his canoe.
You perhaps already know of Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven, but you may be interested in this link. Thomson sometimes used a similar compositional device which was adopted by several others in the Canadian group. Tom Thompson Looking for the link, I came across this short video on the restoration of his painting 'The Jack Pine' which is interesting in itself (I think so!) and has good close-ups of the painting.
:-)
Powerful design, Nikolai.
