Sean and Tony thank you for your comments.  And thanks for offer of help Tony.  The boards are plywood which I primed and gessoed twice.  The paint slips and leaves dragged brush marks which are NOT the kind of painterly brush marks I would like! Thinks...could that be part of the problem - I'm dragging the paint rather than placing the paint?
