Accommodation in Wexford for Art in the Open Festival

Travelling to Wexford for Art in the Open?

One impediment in these straightened times is the cost of somewhere to stay. Artists are generally not flush or fláithiúilach at present. The other is that the August bank holiday is a busy time so it is essential to start organising this early.

I am hoping this thread may help in facilitating people finding and sharing accommodation. If you are seeking accommodation or someone to share costs, perhaps this will help.

The festival has sought to advertise for Wexford Town home-owners to offer a spare room at modest rent to an artist. It must be said, so far, without much response. But we will keep trying.

I stumbled upon this accommodation today (4 Bedrooms, sleeps up to 7people with 2 bathrooms at €381.80) and just want to give anyone interested a 'heads up' as it seems reasonable enough for the week of 30.7.12 - 6.8.12.

Having said that, I don't know the exact location (apparently within a mile of Wexford Town) and I have nothing whatsoever to do with the letting agency, Irish Holiday Cottages. If you follow it up it is up to you to make your own enquiries. It is property no.10635 on IHC's website.

If you are a person short to share, Aussie artist Leon Holmes wrote to me that he wants participate in the festival and is looking to share somewhere and he can be contacted here:
leonholmes@bigpond.com.au
www.leonholmesart.com.au  Ph: 0401 034 674. Leon is currently working in Germany.

Good luck and I hope it works out well for someone.

There are some links with good commercial deals on the festival website (see Visitor Info.).

There are 2 hostels: StayinginWexford,  and Kirwan House. Wexford also has a popular municipal Wexford Town campsite and caravan park beside the swimming pool just across the bridge in Ferrybank. For latest availability and professional advice, contact: Wexford Tourist Information Office.

Wexford is quite well served for a range of hotels from 4* down to Guesthouses and B&Bs to make a holiday of your visit. While the bank holiday weekend will be busy, if you are staying 5 or more nights, you should be able to haggle for a good deal. We recommend you say you are participating in Art in the Open festival, which may help. For example. some providers are offering 7 nights for the price of 5 (see festival website under Visitor Info).

We will add any other accommodation information as we get it.
