Weather and bank holiday got the better of us last week. How about the village of Duleek, Co.Meath this week.
Duleek is a village west of Drogheda in County Meath. Ireland's oldest stone church was built here during the 5th century. It has been superseded by the 12th century monastery, St. Mary's Abbey – now in picturesque ruins.
Some some intriguing country lanes run around the abbey.
'The Battle of the Boyne' was said to have been fought near Duleek and King William is said to have spent the night there after the battle.
We will meet at 11 a.m. in Sage & Stone Coffee Shop. on the R150 Duleek to Julianstown road.
To get there:- From Dublin take N2 via Finglas, (by-pass Ashbourne) to Kilmoon Cross. Take right turn to Duleek R152. When you get to Duleek graveyard on your right turn right onto R150 to Julianstown. Sage and Stone is very soon on your left.
