    Norah, et al,

Reminders & locations posted usually here on Plein Eire Dublin page, and on Plein Eire Events page, usually with reasonable notice - but for sure, hail, rain or snow, there'll be a First-Sat-Month-Paint Out!

  • john o'flynn

Gerard, Thanks for organising all of this - esp the Ouzo's tie in - looking forward to it especially (aren't we meant to be having a heat-wave mid-week - if so, I hope it lasts till Sat 1/10!) - John O F

    Hi y'awl!

Round 9am I sent a message thru this website to Gerard in Blackrock who's organising today,  Sat 1/10's  Paint-Out suggesting (I think its his call) a postponement due to rain; my usual motto is "hail, rain or snow" but on reflection that is based on the rain we typically have - which usually abates after an hour or two: today's seems unusually persistent. A late postponement would be better than a wash out, given we've a restaurant tie-in. I'll keep an eye on weather from across bay in Clontarf (where there's a life drawing class 11-1) and nip over only if the weather clears. I've inquired with site admin and I think we should post general arrangements at the head of this web-page - including that attendees check webpage on morning of a Paint-Out in case of any late change of plans. All the best, JOHN O FLYNN, D13

    Hi all,

You might note I've managed to insert a comment at the top of this page replacing the outdated content and explaining what we do; it would be nice now to replace the expedient water colour of Glasnevin green house with an archytypal thumbnail that says "Plein Eire Dublin" : any nominations? (suggestion: paste your thumbnail into a comment box like this, but reduce width (in pixels) to about 200 so it fits and it roughly the size it might be used at in our header); When a few are in we'll start voting!

    Best, JOHN O F

  • Norah Blount

Still think it would be better to post locations on the Events Page, the watercolour of Glasnevin looks good to me

  • Sally Downey

Glad to see you're coming to Balbriggan.  The weather has got to be better than last Saturday.

Not sure why you want to change your thumbnail.  Its very identifiable.

I've noted your revised comment and am impressed.  Could I suggest that when you post info re. paint out you  notify group members by copying and pasting and 'Sending a Message to Group' (little box on top right, above list of members).  That way each member gets an email re outing.

  • john o'flynn

    Norah

Paint Outs should be posted on both "PE Dublin" & "Events" pages, I think. Sally - thanks for tip on "Sending to Group" - I'll try to remember - I had impression page automatically sent new postings on group page to all group members, no?

Tks for compliments on Glasnevin logo-pic; here's another suggestion - (guess where!?); I have one also of Four Courts - and a better oil of Galsnevin in snow - I'll post them in coming days. Post some suggestion if you have them. Whatever the consensus...I didnt think Glasnevin would be a quintessentially "Dublin" pic for those who arent in the "know" - but then all PE Dub members would be familiar with city's landmarks! - For now - JOHN O F

  • Alison Fox

Lovely to see the event info posted. If I don't make it best of luck out in Blackrock.

    Hi folks

Excuse late notice! We agreed last time out (Dalkey, 1/11/11) that we'd go to Howth for December's First-Sat-Month Paint Out; so next Sat, (3/12/11) I suggest we meet at the prominant Findlaters Pub/Restaurant on Harbour Road, just at the entrance to Howth at 12 noon (unfortunately most hostelries don't open earlier); if one were to exit the DART station and walk left for 2 mins you'd see it on your right: high, new, brick & glass around old structure. As I'm local, if you want to come by DART, I'll undertake to ferry you around Howth Head.

Looking fwd to seeing your there! - JOHN O FLYNN, 087 2709097

  • john o'flynn

Four of us attended December’s “First-Sat-of-Month” Paint Out in Howth on 3/12/11; luckily, as with November’s Paint Out in Dalkey, the sun shone, tho’ it was quite cold if one was not in a sheltered spot.

Next month, January’s Paint Out, we have agreed will be in a central location – back in the Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin, where we met last January (one of last January’s pics attached). With shelter (warm greenhouses and café)  and a Christmas ambience, it seems a suitable venue for the low point (from a plein air point of view) of winter .

So hope to see you on Sat Jan 7th at around 11 in main cafe at Botanic Gdns, Glasnevin.

    John O FLYNN/087 2709097

  • Norah Blount

I keep forgetting your paint outs are first sat every month and keep missing them - will get my calender out for 2012 - I am retiring so no excuses !

  • Svetlana Starikova

    Hi John.

You was in the Botanic Gardens last January.

Do you know if anyone is allowed to make sketches inside Garden pavilions?

  • john o'flynn

    Svetlana

Yes you can sketch & paint inside pavilions - I did an oil sketch there during the year - hope to see you on Jan 7th!

    Best- JOF

  • john o'flynn

Merry Christmas to all "Plein Eire Dubliner's" and hope to see you in Glasnevin for first "Paint-Out" of 2012 on Sat. Jan 7, at 11.00am!

Below is a "plein air" (with Photoshop snowflakes) of a scene at Templemichael, near Youghal, where my great-great-great grandfather, J O'Flynn (1790-1880), his son, also J O'Flynn, and other members of their families are burried.  - J O'Flynn

A beautiful card, your family must treasure this one, hope to see you all in Jan

What a lovely painting John, Merry Christmas to you and all. See you in Jan

  • Tom Scott

Tom Scott will attend January Paint out  in Botanic Gardens

  • Tom Scott

The first session of the year was held in the Botanic Gardens on Sat. 7th Jan. There was a very good turn out with fourteen  painters present many out for the first time with the Dublin Group. The day was cold but bright allowing those who wished to paint outdoors and  those who preferred shelter or a different challenge made for one of the glass houses. We met initially in the restauarant for coffee and at the end of the session for sustenance and a chat. It was great start to our painting year and hopefully created a momentum for the rest of the year. We took a group photo at the end but Svetlana and Julia were missing for this.

  • Karen Scannell

I was hoping to get up to you guys for this one, but forgot your paint outs are on a Saturday. Good job I saw all your posts on Saturday, or I'd have been sitting on my lonesome :(

Another time hopefully. Great turnout. We're hoping to set our easels in motion down here soon too! Here's to a productive 2012!!

    Hi all, PE Dubliners,

After some discussion (and prevarication!) we've decided on a joint PE Dub & PEBV in Balbriggan this coming Sat, March 3rd:  There's the harbour, a choice of two beaches, the town, to paint, and some of the finest of Harry Clarke's stained glass in Balbriggan Church, which some might like to take in afterwards. Balbriggan is on the trainline north, parking is free in the car park on Quay Street under the bridge, and I (JOF) will give anyone a lift from Dublin city centre or within easy reach of it if they would like. Rendevous point for a cuppa beforehand to be advised (within 24 hrs). Hope its not too far north for some, but I hope we can compensate by taking in Powerscourt & Russborough in the deep south of our area as weather improves.

Hope you can make it- JOF

  • Ray Tsang

hi john im new here and havent been on any outings yet.   I would love to avail of a lift from you and attend this one (as i cant drive myself) please get back to me and let me know if there is any room for me.

    cheers

    Ray

  • john o'flynn

    Ray,

Sure - where do you live so we can arrange a rendevous Sat am?

    Hi John and PE Dub,

This Sat PEBV will be meeting for a paint-out in the upper carpark of Ardgillan Castle, Balbriggan at 11am and then will be at the opening of the 4 Voices Exhibition held by Deirdre Shanny, Sean Quinn, Frank Hallianan Flood and myself in Ardgillan Castle.  If you want to take in the Harry Clark's wonderful stained glass windows before hand I can meet you in the carpark of Balbriggan Church at around 10.30am.  It would be nice to have the joint paint-out as discussed. Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday.

    All the best,

    Alison

  • john o'flynn

    Dear Plein Eire Dubliners,

We have a slight modification to our planned visit to Balgriggan on Sat 3/03- we will instead team up with Plein Eire Boyne Valley members for a joint paint-out at nearby Ardgillan Castle, meeting at upper carpark there at 11am. For those of you who want to see Harry Clarke's stained glass in Balbriggan Church- we will meet Alison of PEBV there at 10.15 and then head up to Ardgillan. The best way to get to Ardgillan, which is near the coast between Skerries and Balbriggan, is to exit Junction 5 on MI northbound , turning right at/thru Balrothery towards Ardgillan. For Balgriggan exit Jct 6. I can collect anyone who might come by train at Balbriggan station to go to the Church for 10.15 or Ardgillan at 11.

If anyone wants a lift from Dublin I'd be departing Dublin city centre round 9.30.

Hope thats ok with everyone - and sorry for late notice and late change of plan.

    Best - John O Flynn /087 2709097

  • Ray Tsang

john i tried to phone you about tomorrow but there was no answer so i left a msg.

  • john o'flynn

    Hi all,

Our next scheduled First-Sat Paint-Out should be on Easter Sat, so that should be deferred. Last April we had a very well attended joint paint out with Dublin Painting & Sketching Club, coinciding with their annual exhibition in Dun Laoire town hall: so I propose we do the same this year on the Saturday they've nominated: Sat 21/04 at nearby Sandycove, at 11am. Coffee beforehand in wine shop opposite "The Eagle" pub for anyone whose's interested! -Best - John O Flynn/087 2709097

  • john o'flynn

Just a late reminder that April's Paint-Out will take place this Sat 21/04 11am at Sandycove, along with Dublin Painting & Sketching Club members. Meet in "Sixty Four Wine" near corner of Link Rd from coast to Glasthule Road (opp Eagle Pub) from 10.15. - best - JOF

  • john o'flynn

    Hi folks,

We had a good attendance at April's joint Paint-Out with Dublin Painting & Sketching Club (to coincide with their annual exhibition in Dun Laoire town hall) - at Sandycove on April 21st - and the sun shone into the bargain!

I am proposing we go to Russborough House near Blessington for May's First-Sat Paint-Out, weather is usually good this time of year (coming up to exam time!) and I for one like a bit of architecture to anchor my landscapes. Meet in cafe there at 11am. I'll be heading from D13 thru town and on out by Tallaght, so if anyone wants a lift, please just ask.

Remember, any member can suggest location for subsequent months' First-Sat Paint-Outs, all we require is a likely painting location, some parking, and a hostelry for some refreshment and conviviality!

Hope you can make it on Sat.

    - JOHN O FLYNN/ 087 2709097

Fowarded by John O Flynn; from John McManus:

(meet at 11am, PE Dublin June's First Sat Paint Out, 2/06):

I propose meeting at the Poolbeg Yacht & Boat Club for some marine and dock-land scenery for the next paint-out of the Plein Eire Dublin group. The club has kindly agreed that we could avail of the facilities for refreshments, bathroom, etc. The bar is open from 10am - tea, coffee, drinks, toasted sandwiches, etc. We could paint on the veranda overlooking the Liffey with views along the Liffey in both directions and across the river towards Boland's Mills. Plenty of scope for those who enjoy line and buildings and blocks of colour for more abstract motifs.
The club-house is visible on the right hand-side when travelling from the south-side along York Rd, towards the East-Link toll-gates, but is not accessible from York Road. Access is on Pigeon House Road and approached from the round-about at the junction of York rd. and Sean Moore Rd. If you are travelling from the north-side across the East-Link you take first left exit off the roundabout. If travelling from south-side towards the East-Link you go straight through the roundabout, i.e. the 3rd exit. Phone me if you need directions.
Hope to see you there. John Mc Manus

  • Valerie Syms Martin

Sounds great!  I hope to be there.  I haven't painted there before.

  • john o'flynn

    Hi all PE Dub members,

Thanks to John McManus for setting us up with a splendid venue today (02/06) at Poolbeg Yacht Club, adjacent to East Link, where the sun shone (for a while!) and we had a great turn-out of 13, with parking, bar and good vantage points at our disposal.

Next First-Sat (July)  we've pencilled in the Dodder around the Dropping Well - but more detail later.

    Happy painting - JOF

  • john o'flynn

    deirdre moriarty posted an event

Plein Eire Dublin first Saturday paintout (July 7th). at The Dropping Well

    July 7, 2012 from 11am to 4pm
The Dropping Well pub is on the river Dodder and is an ideal location for painting. There is plenty of parking space with short strolls to lovely views and a 'Weir' about a hundred metres from the pub
(Plenty of parking nearby - JOF)
  • john o'flynn

    Hi all PE Dub'ers!

About 10 artists turned out to Dodder today (7/6/12) and despite flakey forecasts and floods elsewhere the sun shone on us all day! One never knows!

How do folk feel about August's First-Sat-Paint-Out - which will coincide with AITO in Wexf'rd: any member who's staying around Dublin for bank Hol weekend like to organise it?

    Best - JOF

  • John McManus

Really enjoyed today John, but I will be at AITO for the next one.

    John

  • Tom Scott

Hi John, sorry I missed the last paint out, sounds as if it was a successful event both for weather and attendance.  I was 'plein airing' in Achill, in the rain, at the time. Will be in Wexford for the next outing so will miss that as well. Tom
