    Courtown Harbor Paintout Event Page

  • Karen Scannell

Compliments of A.I.O, a 25 seater mini bus is being made available to bring artists to the event...

It leaves from Wexford Station @ 7 pm.

Check with Neil O Keefe for the number of seats available...

  • Karen Scannell

Anyone interested in probably our last paintout for 2012, this coming Sunday December 9th...... I was thinking that Tintern Abbey would be a good venue for this time of year ?

  • Tony Robinson

Ok. If it is an 'Event', we can RSVP to find out who's up for it. Coffee shop still out of action since the fire there, though. Where's the best place to thaw out?

  • Michael McGuire

I'd be up for it, Karen. Didn't get a chance to try out the "thermals" yet this winter!

  • Tony Robinson

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my SEPA painting buddies.

  • Karen Scannell

Have a great Christmas and New Year Everyone !!

  • Karen Scannell

A little bit of sunshine today, holds promise that we can get our schedule organised for this year !!

Here's a link to a website, with areas around the South East, we may like to travel to ........Have a look, and let us know where you'd like to paint...

    http://www.irelandbyways.com/ireland-territories/irelands-counties/...

If you know of a good location near where you live, please put the suggestion forward, thanks.

  • Michael McGuire

I wonder what the new owners have in mind for Loftus Hall, Karen, but it would be great to get a chance to paint there (supposedly great rocky seascape behind the house). I'd be happy to drive in there (I'm not afraid of you know who!) and ask the next time I'm down that way.

  • Karen Scannell

Good idea Micheal...I'll say a prayer for ya :)

  • Michael McGuire

Another thought is Carnivan Beach. Just down the road from Fethard with all the necessary facilities. If people were directed to the car park(s) overlooking the beach, it's quite safe, and the beach itself can be great on a sunny day.

  • Michael McGuire

I'll make sure not to play cards with anyone, Karen!

  • Karen Scannell

What if we took a Historical Theme this year ? It may not bring us to the most devastatingly beautiful Locations, but i like the idea of learning a little about our Counties History..as to be honest I haven't much of a clue about Wexfords Past...?

Each paint out wouldn't HAVE to have a historical Connection, but it would be preferable .....

  • Michael McGuire

In a theoligal sense, we could start with Loftus Hall then! Leave it with me until next weeK

  • Margaret Kent

I was down in Loftus Hall last September when the straw bales were in the fields and it was beautiful, they have made a super walkway right down onto the rocks.........stunning ........and another view of Hook head.I would imagine the cafe etc is seasonal but would be worth the wait.

  • Karen Scannell

That's good news Margaret, btw there's talk of Obama visiting the JFK Homestead this year...I wonder could we paint there at some point ??

  • Margaret Kent

Good idea Karen do you want me to talk to Pat Grennan?
  • Karen Scannell

Yes Please Margaret....that would be great thanks !

  • Karen Scannell

We'd be pushing it to ask can we paint while he's there ??? :))

  • Margaret Kent

    I think we might !!
  • Michael McGuire

The CIA would probably round us all up, Margaret!

  • Lize Human

The historcal theme is a good idea. Are we going to get a brief history lesson about each venue? Will be very interesting though...

  • Karen Scannell

Wexford 10 day weater forecast..... light showers 7 degrees

    History of Wexford Town

In a country steeped in myth and legend Wexford's history is no exception. A story tells of its origin in the mists of time, when Garman Garbh was drowned on the mudflats by waters released by an Enchantress. The vast expanse of harbour thus created was named "The lake of Garman" or Loch Garman, the Gaelic name for Wexford.

Wexford, derived from the Norse, Weissfiord - inlet of the mudflats

Sooooo how about The North or South Slobs this Sunday for a Paintout ??? :)

  • Michael McGuire

I'll argue about most things, Karen, except history! So I'll take your word for that. You know me, I'll paint anywhere, so either North or South and I'm happy.

  • Karen Scannell

.....could do Katts Strand either as it's closer to the "Legend"....

  • George McHugh

Hopefully not a bridge too far...
  • Karen Scannell

Ha - ha....will we be nick naming you" Garman" George :)

  • Tony Robinson

Sounds good. For future ref., we also have standing invitations to Bargy Castle and to Ballinkeele House in Ballymurn. And i reckon Artramon House and Farm, up from Eden Vale, might be happy to see us, too although probs rather muddy around the farm this time of year. And we've a free pass to paint from the battlements of Enniscorthy Castle anytime (one of very few that will allow it), if you want to stay with your historical theme.

  • Plein Eire Administrator

Karen, why is it rare to see a Norse here nowadays?

    - coz they're in the fridge at Supabuys...(I'll get my coat).

  • Karen Scannell

    Heee - Haaww ...v. funny !!

Thanks for those suggestions.. .I'll stick them in the schedule...Perhaps we could do a double whammy in Enniscorthy.. Vinegar hill and the battlements... We'll need a mild day for that, as I was up there during AIO 2011..and it can be quite chilly !

  • Karen Scannell

As it's still early in the year, the South Slobs will provide better Shelter ...so I think that'll be the best option...

    Cockleshell Exhibition.

It was very enjoyable and a very pleasant launch - great socially.

However it would help to know how many sales there were and the total value of sales before recommending it become an annual event.

  • Ann Cahill

    Cockleshell Exhibition

I agree it was a very enjoyable event, but felt it was a little way out for

the time of year. What about during the summer when there would be

    more people around.

  • Karen Scannell

Next Paintout has been suggested :

The Safe Harbour Rosslare ....One of our favorite locations in the past, yet many of our group have never been. So we'll pencil in Sunday March 3rd, for this location.....

  • Karen Scannell

Life Drawing tomorrow evening at The Swallowsnest Studio 7.30 -10.30pm  Here's a link

Let me know if you'd like to attend.....

  • Karen Scannell

We have people working around the clock looking for new venues :)..My sis forwarded me this link, if anyone is interested :

5 0ff the beaten track places, that must be seen in Ireland

We need suggestions for the next Paintout on March 17th....please let us know where you'd like to go....

  • Karen Scannell

After getting our noses cut off with the cold wind last time..we're eagerly looking for a location with some shelter for a possible paint out this Sunday?

How about Duncormick ? We were here about this time last year, and were told of some areas around it that still need to be discovered ??

Here's a link to last years page http://pleineire.ning.com/group/southeastpleinair/page/duncormick-c...

  • Michael McGuire

Next Sunday is St Patrick's Day, Karen, so maybe a lot of people have other plans. I've already secured permission (required hanging out the washing, doing some ironing and cooking a couple of dinners!).

  • Karen Scannell

    Thanks Micheal. ..forgot completely!
  • Karen Scannell

Any thoughts for Sunday week ? April 21st

  • Phil Stewart

How about a picturesque valley - the Sow River waterfall near Castlebridge, it has good scope for water and trees and is sheltered.  There is parking for a few cars, up to 10 or 12.

  • Michael McGuire

Where exactly is that, Phil? Is it Edenvale? If so, a lot of us have painted there quite frequently. My main concern though is that I've heard that cars have been vandalised there recently.

  • Karen Scannell

Sounds Like Edenvale Phil. Very good choice for this time of year, before there is a spurt of growth in the trees....

  • Phil Stewart

Yes its Edenvale, I don't know what to say about the vandalised cars.  There is another entrance to it at the top but there is no parking spaces there it would just be on the road.

  • Phil Stewart

Well just another thought where you can be close to the car, How about down at the jetty at Killurin Bridge, depending on the tide and weather it can be quite interesting.

  • Michael McGuire

I heard it from Mattie Grannell (Grannell Motors), so I presume it happened a few times and he repaired the cars involved. But maybe if it's Sunday, it will be busier there, so less likely to be targeted. I think the same thing happens in places like Curracloe/Raven's Point other than during busy periods. The advantage of Edenvale is that it's fairly sheltered. The other place could be very exposed if it's cold and windy.

  • Karen Scannell

I'm Happy to do both...Edenvale in the morning, and Killurin Bridge in the Afternoon. Both have something to offer, and are close to one another..

  • Phil Stewart

    That's a good idea

Hope to see you then at Edenvale or Killurin.

  • Michael McGuire

That's at least three of us then! Now, I must get on with arranging fine weather!

  • Ann Cahill

Hi, if it helps I've parked lot's of time at Edenvale and never had a problem
