For what it is worth.......I feel SEPA worked very well in the past with 2official paint out Sundays published in advance and any impromptu days sundays or weekdays added in between depending on the weather........I would be very wary of establishing too many rules and borders,I do appreciate the costs involved in travelling for some of us .......but if there were two paint outs on any given day would it be a dreadful thing?.........it is fantastic to know there is always somebody else out there who will join in at a few hours notice.

  • Mary H Hickey

How about Thomastown or Inistiogue on the banks of the Nore?

    Plenty of restaurants and pubs.

  • Karen Scannell

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts. The year is ploughing on , and in the meantime, paintouts need to be planned. I've taken on board any suggestions that came up.

    Running with

    - Evey two weeks as our "Official" Paintout days.

I've made out a preliminary schedule, where you'll see that the locations are  mainly places we've been  before, and also a bit closer to our members who live further away from Wexford.

The Alternate weeks can be kept free, for other impromptu paint outs.

Here we have a facility, which will helps us get in touch with other plein air artists. If you are planning to visit a location to paint plein air, and would like company - let SEPA know. Others may be free to join you .

  • Geraldine Donohoe

Brilliant Karen, very well planned to suit all.  Great to have a definate schedule laid out and an option for folks to suggest the 'alternative' options every other week!

  • Ann Cahill

Thank you Karen for all the work you do planning our paintouts.

It's a hard job trying to please everyone. Well done. If anyone would like

to meet Sunday I would love to.

  • Karen Scannell

Hi Anne....I'd like to head off somewhere to this Sunday........I was thinking Saltmills direction, ......do you have any preferences??

  • Mary H Hickey

    Hi Anne and Karen,

I would love to join you.

  • Ann Cahill

Hi Karen and Mary, don't know where Saltmills is but I can find it.

    I'm happy to go anywhere!

  • Terence Gillespie

Hi Karen, thanks for coming up with such a good schedule of paintouts. I hope to be able to get to most and am really looking forward to the new season

  • Karen Scannell

...or how about Duncormick - we haven't painted there before:

"Duncormick is located on beautiful River Muck and is one of the stops on the scenic Bannow Drive, a popular tourist trail "

It's close to a number of beaches, if we feel like a change. I have no info on facilities here ...so it would come under " a reconnaissance mission".... Any thoughts?

..or Dunbrody Abbey + suurounds ??

  • Ann Cahill

Hi Karen Duncormick sounds great , happy to go there. Let's give it a

go , you say time and place. Packing car already!!

  • Karen Scannell

Dunbrody Abbey,  Passage East,  Duncormick........these or any other preferences for this Sunday???

Dunbrody Abbey itself is closed until May, but the surrounding Countryside is beautiful.

Passage East - It has been a long time since we've visited here, - it  has plenty to offer

Duncormick - we enjoyed Duncormick a couple of weeks ago..is it too  soon to return?

  • Louise Treacy

wouldn't mind passage east and HAVE
to get out this week and paint !!!!!
  • Margaret Kent

Karen there is scaffolding on Dunbrody Abbey at the moment which is not very attractive.
  • Michael McGuire

Passage East is probably a bit far, Karen, plus it means a ferry crossing, adding to the time and expense. How about meeting up in Saltmills, just down the road from Tintern Abbey.

  • Louise Treacy

sorry i was thinking of Ballyhack not passage
  • Louise Treacy

how about Arthurstown would that be suitable??
  • Louise Treacy

how about arthurststown would that be any good
  • Karen Scannell

Looks like the weather for Sunday is good. An impromptu paintout is probably the best option for Saltmills , as we haven't based a large paintout here before.

We still need a little shelter as coastal areas can be quite chilly...so I'd favor Saltmills,  and we can post  the other suggestions for a later date.

Hope that suits everyone ? It will be a quiet day I guess as Ireland are playing England  in The Six Nations Rugby !!

  • Michael McGuire

The match is on tomorrow, Karen, so hopefully we'll get a reasonable turnout on Sunday.

  • Tony Robinson

    Not naming any names, eh?

Is there a pub or a set of co-ordinates or a parish pump or a crossroads with comely maidens or anything of the sort at Saltmills which we may gather at?

  • Karina Drogowska

Better be there people, because I'm going to paint there as well... maybe.

  • Karen Scannell

Easter Sunday falls on April 8th this year, so we'll move Duncannon Paint out forward to next Sunday,  April 1st ......

  • Michael McGuire

Any thoughts on an informal paint-out for Sunday next? The weather forecast looks promising.

  • Karen Scannell

I might not make it this Sunday...There's a list of suggested paint outs in the discussion forum on the right of this page..or perhaps you could add a new venue?

If anyone has a venue in mind, let us  know, here on SEPA group page.

If there has been no other suggestions, we can then post it as an Event....or you may be happy to post it as an event yourself?

  • Tony Robinson

Great job, Karen! We'd be floundering about waiting for someone else to make the first move only for your efforts. Thanks.

  • Karen Scannell

Can't claim the first move on this one Tony...Michael has been knocking o n our doors :)

    Good weather for Sunday .......

  • Michael McGuire

Well, I'm considering going to Baginbun Head/Carnivan Bay, unless we get a repeat of this morning's thunderstorms (tripped our main electrical switch and knocked out telephones in the area). I'm also thinking of going back to Thomastown if it's really sunny, because it was really dull on our last visit. Any preferences anyone?

  • Michael McGuire

I think, unless I hear otherwise, I'll head there, Laura. I'll probably park in the "car park" down the road to the beach (third left I think after you leave Fethard-on-Sea on the coast road). I'll probably start on the beach in the morning - it should be sheltered from the North wind down there. And maybe brave the headland in the afternoon!

  • Tony Robinson

Here are some photos of the Carnivan Bay Paint-Out

  • Karen Scannell

    Any suggestions for this Sunday?

  • Paddy Darigan

other possibility's,  Cullenstown, Taghmon, Foulksmills or MT Lenister

  • Paddy Darigan

    how about Edenvale or Borodale!

  • Michael McGuire

The forecast looks pretty dire for the South East next Sunday. So unless something changes, it may be a day for the bed!

  • Karen Scannell

    Thanks for the suggestions Paddy

We might be lucky from what I can see from the five day weather forecast, Sunday morning could be o.k.

  • Philip Dundon

HI Everyone...I drove through Kildavin last week   it looked interesting and I dont think we have been there before It might be worth a visit.....a pub, river ,bridge, two churches....a three legged dog ,two chickens,  and three inhabitants !!!!!!. what do you think??

  • Karen Scannell

Thanks Phil..can't say I've ever been there either, we'll keep that one in mind too..... Maybe we shouldn't venture too far as the day is likely to be cut short with rain.

I wouldn't mind Borodale, as there would be a certain amount of shelter there too......

    Any thoughts?

  • Louise Treacy

too windy my god its like a hurricane here in Tagoat the wind is dire no way would any easel stand in that!!!
  • Michael McGuire

Too long in the USA, Louise! Sure, it's only a bit of a breeze!

  • Karen Scannell

Anyone interested in heading somewhere Sunday?

  • Michael McGuire

The weather looks promising, Karen. How about another visit to Baginbun Head? Or Dunmore East, if anyone is prepared to travel a little further. I'm on for a paint-out anyway.

  • Karina Drogowska

What about Raven Wood Curracloe co. Wexford?

  • Barry Lynch

iLL TRY AND MAKE IT ... WHEREVER

  • Karen Scannell

We did say whenever the weather looks good, we should take another trip to Baginbun Head......so I'm happy to head there tomorrow, as we might not get another chance for a while.....

Do you want to post it as an event Michael ? If you can find your last Baginbun event posting( under last months events)..it can be edited for tomorrow's date
