I agree Barbara, the difference I feel is not setting up an easel and sometimes they are seen as lesser value than a painting done that way ,perhaps. I love sketching, for lots of reasons and was really impressed to see so many great sketchbooks at the Dublin Plein air festival. I never leave home without one in a bag. I always feel it is not worth posting them here but maybe should do so. I think the Dublin Sketchers group post theirs on their blog or on facebook. They meet every sunday around Dublin area.
I don't think so either. But sometimes it is useful to have a workshop in one or the other. Singapore artist, Alvin Mark Tan just laid on a sketching workshop while attending Art in the Open which surprised and enthused many artists about using a sketchbook in new and creative ways. It is a tool many of us don't use half enough.
