Some Studio Work from Plein Air Reference

I started to so some larger studio paintings from plein air reference material a few weeks ago. I've been concentrating on not just copying plein airs on a larger scale (nigh impossible anyway), but rather embellishing them by doing things like adding figures, playing around with texture, and using varying brushstrokes. These are my most recent three:-

Summer Morning, Coumeenoole (West Kerry)

(24" x 18" Oil on Canvas)

Windy Afternoon, Clogher Head (West Kerry)

(24" x 30" Oil on Canvas)

Rough Seas, Near Brandon Creek (West Kerry)

(30" x 24" Oil on Canvas)

OK, Elaine, but maybe I'll look for sponshorship from a Pharma manufacturer!

No, keep posting them!!  I'll take Dramamine, and Norah can hang onto something really sturdy!

Oh dear, one sea-sick and another dizzy! I better stop posting these! I can still remember the morning I painted the original plein air of that one, Norah. I stopped for a break after about a half hour or so, to find a large mountain ram taking an unhealthy interest in me just a few yards away. But once I told him I was a Kerryman he let me stay on his patch!

The one at brandon creek is my favourite - can feel the height, getting dizzy now...

Thanks Elaine. Hope you didn't get sea-sick!

Wonderful paintings, Michael!  The sea is wild!  The middle one makes me feel as if I am on the sea, tossing and turning!  Wonderful light!

Yeah, there are a few extra blobs on the walls all right, Karen! Thanks for the kind comments.

I'd say your studio is even messier now Michael??

They all  look well."Windy Afternoon" Clogher Head  has always been one of my favorites, even more so in the scaled up version...
