Statement

The work that I make, either in my Niagara homeland or while on international residencies, is in direct response to climate, with sensitivity as to how weather shapes environment, communities and culture. A connecting dialogue is about intimate encounters with land and sea to mark places in time. I work outdoors as much as possible, either with paint ‘en plein air’ or by arranging temporary offerings from things that find me on the daily walks.

Bio
Since moving back to Canada from California Jan Yates has been elected as a member of the Society of Canadian Artists and her work is collected throughout North America, the United Kingdom and Australia. Welcome to Plein Eire Jan. I am just back from a weekend in Annaghmakerrig. It is a facinating old house with a long wooden table in the kitchen........great "organic "food...laughter at dinner and silence for work..

Hi Jan,

Congratulations on a residency at Annaghmakerrig.  That's quite an honour. There are several good art shops in Dublin. The oldest and probably the easiest to find is Kennedy's in Harcourt Street, close to St. Stephen's Green.

But you are not entirely correct about it not being permissible to fly with oil paints. It is mostly solvents and mediums which can cause problems with airlines.  See our tips sheet here
